Concept

The sound concept for the characters was intricately themed. Nina, inspired by Nina Simone, and the playwright called for specific Nina Simone songs in the script, yet I envisioned her with a jazz/neo-soul vibe. In contrast, Kenyatta, a black liberation activist, evoked the essence of a Black Panther or a vibrant poetry slam through his music. Damon, Nina's boyfriend, exuded a Latin beat in his sound.
